REBT Practitioner

As a certified REBT (Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy) Practitioner, am equipped with a powerful approach to counselling that addresses the interconnectedness of cognition, emotion, and behaviour. REBT is founded on the understanding that when individuals are disturbed, they often engage in dysfunctional thought patterns, leading to negative emotions and behaviours. Conversely, when they can rationalize their thoughts and challenge self-defeating beliefs, they can experience significant psychological and philosophical shifts.

REBT is considered an advanced form of counselling, often involving confrontational techniques to challenge irrational beliefs and promote cognitive restructuring. Despite its discomfort, it is highly effective in helping individuals overcome self-doubt, limiting beliefs, and toxic behavioural patterns. By focusing on rationalizing thoughts against defence mechanisms and negative behaviours, REBT aims not only to bring about psychological change but also profound philosophical shifts in clients.

This therapeutic approach is particularly beneficial for addressing issues such as loss, grief, pain, and hurt, which can lead to feelings of unworthiness, lack of trust, sadness, isolation, and hopelessness. By challenging and rationalizing the thought processes underlying these emotions, REBT aims to facilitate healing and restore a sense of functionality in daily life.

In REBT, the emphasis is on addressing disturbances at their roots rather than simply trimming the surface. By focusing on facts and rationalizing thoughts, practitioners aim to bring about lasting change in clients’ emotional responses and behaviours.

The versatility of REBT extends beyond individual therapy sessions. It can also be applied in workplace settings to facilitate change and improve productivity, as well as in couples counselling to address relationship dynamics and conflicts.

Additionally, it’s recommended that individuals undergo personal counselling before engaging in REBT to build rapport and overcome any fears of judgment, as disclosure is a crucial aspect of the therapeutic process.
